I'M IN LOVE WITH THE COCO.

Coconut Oil, Benefits, Natural
Coconut Oil has been a staple item in my hair care routine for a long time. Recently, I have integrated this amazing god-given-gift into my skin care essentials. and let me tell you it has done me wonders! Coconut oil is such a versatile item as not only is it great for external use but also carries many health benefits and is great for cooking. I pick up mine from Costco and this particular one from Carlington Farms is organic, virgin and cold pressed.

Skin Care

As I mentioned above, I have recently discovered how amazing coconut oil is for our skin. I use it in a number of different ways:

Natural Makeup Remover/cleanser: I have completely eliminated using any makeup removers from my skin care routine, as it leaves my skin feeling dry and flaky. In fact, a lot of cleansers on the market are filled with harsh chemicals and overabundance of alcohol that strips out the natural oils from your skin. This eventually causes an overproduction of oil leading to severe acne, clogged pores and other skin issues. Coconut oil will not only remove waterproof makeup and any other impurities with irritation, but will also moisturize your skin simultaneously.

How to use it as a cleanser/makeup remover: Take half of a teaspoon of coconut oil and put it on the palm of your hand and rub it with your fingers so that it warms up, then gently massage it into your skin. Let sit for 30 seconds and remove with a cotton pad. This will remove your makeup AND cleanse your skin at the same time. (remember to use a teaspoon to take coconut oil from the container as you don't want to germify (as I like to call it), the rest of the container.

Moisturizer: I LOVE using coconut oil as a moisturizer. I suffer from psoriasis on my scalp and this often leads to my skin, in particular my forehead and cheeks being extremely dry and flaky. I usually use coconut oil on my skin right before I go to sleep and when I wake up in the morning, my skin is left feeling supple and well-moisturized. I avoid using any face wash in the morning, as I feel the coconut oil on my face from the prior night creates a great base for makeup and you don't need to use any more moisturizer etc.

How to use it as a moisturizer: Similar to above, take 1/3 of a teaspoon and rub between your palms. Gently dab it on the surface of your skin, and slowly work it into your skin in circular motion and let it absorb into your skin.

Hair Care

I have suffered from very bad psoriasis on my scalp since I was a baby. I have tried countless prescriptions and other remedies and nothing has helped. Currently, I use coconut oil in conjunction with my medicine. I plan on slowly discontinuing use of any medication. The psoriasis has also lead to a lot of hair loss recently, which had me really worried. Having used coconut oil in my hair as helped massively and as I continue using it, I am sure it will help even more.

Hair loss/hair damage: Coconut oil has been used since ancient times to help prevent hair loss. When applied with a mixture of lime juice and coconut oil, it can rid the scalp of any dry skin. Also, coconut oil has cooling properties and helps reduce protein loss in hair. Because of its low molecular weight, coconut easily penetrates into the hair shaft providing it protein. Since I have started using coconut oil in my hair, my hair feels more healthy, soft and less frizzy.

How to use coconut oil in hair care: I use coconut oil the night before I wash my hair. I take 2-3 table spoons and put it in a bowl (you might need more depending on how long and thick your hair is). I place the bowl in warm water so that it can melt a little bit. Avoid putting it in the microwave as it can strip the nutrients preserved in the coconut oil. Then part your hair in sections and start applying it from the root to the tip of your hair. Ensure that you massage the oil well into your scalp. Then braid your hair and sleep! I usually put a towel on my pillow so that the oil doesn't get on my pillows. Wash your hair in the morning and it will left feeling soft and healthy!

You can pick up this particular coconut oil from Costco Wholesale stores.

  4. I did the same thing. Love it. I have used olive oil and now switched to coconut. Add sea salt and fresh ground coffee. I buy the highest caffeinated coffee I can find and it really smooths skin and helps reduce the appearance of cellulite. There's a link on my blog on where to get the potent coffee.
